School Residencies

with Coffieman

Evans Coffie, also known as Coffieman brings an authentic learning experience to students of all ages. A typical residency of one week would have students learning the basic proper techniques on the djembe and/or basic rhythmical African movements through dance. At the end of the week, students would have a showcase performance that would highlight all they have learned and show their progress to the school and community in attendance. Evans has played touring and teaching drumming and dance for 35 years

Evans is originally from Ghana, West Africa where he was plucked out of his small village to train and become a member of the National Dance Company, where he was a principal dancer/drummer for more than 11 years. While touring the world with the dance company he discovered the beauty of Canada and decided to become part of its landscape. Bringing all his talent with him, Coffieman was born, performing and teaching African fusion rhythms for all to enjoy.
